I was riding my bike on a September day in Dallas, Texas, training for a triathlon when I was hit by a car. I suffered a spinal cord injury, a torn aorta, a broken hip, broken shoulder and subdural hematoma. I was in the hospital for eight weeks and underwent numerous surgeries.

When it come time for discharge to a rehab facility my family wanted me back in Cincinnati at Drake Center. I came in on a strecher via medflight from Dallas and after three months of intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy, I walked out of Drake using just a walker! I’ve now done several 5K’s since the accident and am back to work part-time!
